About to enter the ‘Perfect Storm’

about to enter the 'Perfect Storm'

about to enter the 'Perfect Storm'

Timing is everything. If there ever was a perfect time for an international investor to think seriously about owning a chunk of the USA, then this is it!

The property market in the USA is about to enter the ‘Perfect Storm’.

A combination of a…

* severely depressed property market,
* high unemployment,
* very little savings left (if any) to the average US citizen,
* and a weak US dollar.

…has created a unique opportunity for international investors.

If you are living outside the USA and would like to own a share in the ‘big corporation’, then take a serious look at deed sales.

Some important steps that can be taken by investors

Researching well before investing abroad is the most important tasks for an international investor. Though it is a discipline that pays off anywhere, it is particularly crucial in places unfamiliar to us. Closely following global market trends and events helps to keep track of not only attractive opportunities, but of unfair practices and unscrupulous scams too.

Whether or not an investor is suited to international investing depends upon many factors, but the primary one among them is their ability to handle risk. Trends have shown that younger investors who wish to invest for the long term or who are in their peak earning years seeking to maximize their capital. However even they should take care to do some detailed research before investing abroad.

Some important steps that can be taken by investors to protect their interests are:

1. Do not rush into international investments just because many others seem to be doing it too. Even if business and investment news give the impression that it is a very attractive thing to do, do not throw in your money recklessly. Investors must make sure that their investment is appropriate for their financial objectives and more importantly, for their ability to deal with risk.

2. Before investing abroad investors should research something about the market they want to invest in. What are the regulation policies and rules of that market? Are investors in the market protected from investment fraud and abuse? Which government agency will address an investor’s query and assist him in case of any problem? Keep these questions in mind before making international investments.

Risks of International Investment – Part II

Even though investing abroad can prove to be profitable in the long run, there are quite a few risks of international investment to be considered before investing internationally. Risks are part and parcel of the game, but to be aware of it helps to plan ahead and mitigate them as far as possible. An important aspect of international investment is that with time volatility tends to decrease, as previous records have shown. So it is best to for an international investor to be ready with some long-term plans spread over a period of five to ten years in order to decrease the risk of loss due to a slump in markets.

Some other risks that need to be kept in mind while investing abroad are as follows:

1. Correlations Between International and Domestic Markets: It is generally believed that there is little correlation between domestic markets and international ones, which is actually beneficial to the investor investing abroad. However, recent trends show that these correlations are increasing. Moreover, these correlations seem to increase during down markets and decrease during up markets. This is rather troubling since it would benefit investors if during a slump in domestic markets the international market performed differently! What’s more, it appears that this trend may actually be more prevalent in established markets than in emerging markets.
